Community Service Offerings

Laboratory Management
Students support local biotechnology programs by learning laboratory etiquette, inventory and organization to promote understanding of proper reagent storage and improvement of laboratory blueprint.

Genetic Marker Identification
Students will support community engagement in biotechnology by identifying genetic markers in urban farm produce compared to grocery store produce. Students will use this experience to inform the general public about genetic characteristics of local produce to support informed decisions of best produce to consume.

Social Media Engagement
Students can support community engagement and promote access to biotechnology initiatives + opportunities through design of flyers, posts and videos created to advertise biotechnology initiatives and awareness opportunities.

Culinary Nutrition
Students engage biotechnology through integration of interdisciplinary research-based recipe design and apply their knowledge of biochemical underpinnings to develop and design recipes to meet dietary restrictions for the improvement of community health and wellness.

STEAM
Students explore hands-on, STEAM-focused experiments to enhance their understanding of biotechnology applications for real-world impact.
Apply Now for ABA Approval
Organizations and students may use theses form to start the process of applying to participate in our Community Service in Biotechnology programs. Organizations that apply, when approved, become accredited community service sites from ABA to provide their students with community service hours for their engagement in biotechnology initiatives.
